Scots to join international arbitration body
Brandon Malone, chairman of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, has been appointed to the International Chamber of Commerce UK Committee for Arbitration and ADR. Andrew Mackenzie, the Centre's chief executive of the Centre, will serve as his alternate.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is the world’s largest business organisation, with more than 6.5m members in 130 countries. ICC Dispute Resolution Services includes the International Court of Arbitration, one of the world's leading bodies for the resolution of business disputes by arbitration, and ICC UK has a role in nominating arbitrators based in the UK to this court.
ICC UK has accepted a recommendation that the membership of the committee should, so far as possible, be representative of UK users and practitioners of ICC arbitration and dispute resolution services. Mr Malone and Mr Mackenzie will join 12 other members, chaired initially by John Beechey, former President of ICC’s International Court of Arbitration, and four ex officio members, three from the ICC International Court of Arbitration and one from the ICC Arbitration and Mediation Commission.
The committee has created a subcommittee, which will propose arbitrators for appointment when the UK National Committee is approached for a nomination by the ICC Court.
Mr Mackenzie said: “We have had a number of discussions with ICC regarding ICC UK and its role in nominating arbitrators based in the UK to its International Court of Arbitration, keen to ensure that Scottish arbitrators are considered by ICC. Clearly this has paid off, with our invitation to represent Scottish practitioners on this new committee.”
