Scottish Arbitration Centre recognised in global awards
The Scottish Arbitration Centre's recent growth has been recognised by its shortlisting for the award of up-and-coming regional arbitration institution of the year, at the Global Arbitration Review annual awards.
Developments at the Centre that contributed to its shortlisting include the opening of its new hearing centre in Edinburgh and its proposal to develop bespoke arbitration rules for energy disputes.
The shortlist was announced at the Fifth Annual GAR Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Deloitte, in Washington DC on 25 February.
Winner of the award was the LCIA-MIAC Arbitration Centre in Mauritius; other shortlisted entries were the Beijing Arbitration Commission; the Centre of Arbitration and Mediation of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce in Rio de Janeiro; the German Institution of Arbitration; the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration; and the Netherlands Arbitration Institution.
White & Case were presented with the coveted top spot of the GAR30 law firms, and a lifetime achievement award went to arbitration judge the Hon Charles N Brower.
Andrew Mackenzie, chief executive of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, said: "It is a great honour for the Centre to be recognised by Global Arbitration Review at its prestigious award ceremony. We were up there with some larger institutions, such as the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration and, of course, the winners, LCIA-MIAC. This nomination is recognition from the international community of our work, which is putting Scotland firmly on the international arbitration map."
