Scottish Human Rights Commission new member confirmed

A new member of the Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has been appointed following an open recruitment exercise.

Jane-Claire Judson will take up office as a part-time member on 1 September 2017, for a 6 year term. She replaces Matt Smith, who has been in office since 2010.

Ms Judson is currently the national director for Diabetes Scotland, responsible for leading and managing Diabetes UK's activities in Scotland. After graduating from the University of Dundee in 2000, with an MA in English Literature and Contemporary European Studies, Ms Judson went on to work in corporate policy and public affairs at NUS Scotland and the Scottish Parliament. She holds an MBA and is a Health Foundation Generation Q Fellow. She has previously held board positions with Volunteer Scotland and the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations, and is currently a board member at NHS Health Scotland.

The Commission’s general duty is to promote human rights and, in particular, to encourage best practice in relation to human rights. Part time members work 30 days per annum and are paid a daily rate of £262.74.
