Society appeals for goods as staff to run Nepal charity shop
An appeal has gone out for donations of quality clothes and accessories as Law Society of Scotland staff plan to run a charity shop in aid of Nepal.
Six employees will give a day next month to staff the shop in order to raise funds for Save the Children’s Nepal Earthquake appeal. Society staff are entitled to donate one working day per year to a corporate social responsibility initiative.
On Thursday 11 June they take over Mary’s Living and Giving Shop in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, and are appealing to solicitors to help them raise as much money as possible by donating good quality high street and designer clothes in reasonable condition.
Lindsay Young, one of the volunteers, said: “I have made regular donations to Save the Children for years. However, when the opportunity arose to work in the shop for a day, with all funds raised going directly to the Nepal appeal, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.
“Mary’s Living and Giving Shop sells top-end high street and designer clothes and we are appealing to Law Society members to help us by raiding their wardrobes. I know there are some very stylish solicitors out there, and this is a great opportunity for them to have a clearout as well as help people who have been left devastated by the earthquake in Nepal.
“For those of you who have already springcleaned your wardrobe for the year, don’t worry, you can still help us raise funds by donating to our Just Giving page or by popping down to the shop to see us in action – we promise some surprises on the day!”
Donations of clothes will be collected from law firms in Edinburgh: contact csrshop@lawscot.org.uk to arrange this by Friday 5 June. Donations from outside Edinburgh can be sent by Legal Post, or handed in to the Society's offices at Drumsheugh Gardens. Alternatively, money donations can be made via Just Giving at https://www.justgiving.com/lawsocietyscotlandCSR
All monies raised via this page will go directly to Save the Children’s Nepal Appeal.
