Society Council election results announced
New Council members will represent all the constituencies involved in this year's elections to the Law Society of Scotland's Council, though some familiar faces also return.
The results, announced this afternoon, show new members returned for both seats representing Aberdeen, Banff, Peterhead and Stonehaven sheriff court districts, and four of the five Edinburgh seats. Two new members were returned unopposed in Airdrie, Hamilton and Lanark, while one new member and one retiring member were unopposed in Ayr, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright and Stranraer.
Successful candidates in the north east were Deborah Anne Wilson, of Wilson Defence, Banff, and Jane Dickers of Gray & Gray, Aberdeen, who came in ahead of Jacqueline Buchanan, Deborah Edon, Geraldine Fraser, Jane MacEachran and Ross Taggart.
The five chosen to represent Edinburgh are retired in-house solicitor Colin Anderson, Sheila Webster of Davidson Chalmers, Susan Murray of National Services Scotland (the NHS legal team), Jim Stephenson of Thorley Stephenson and Susan Oswald of Sheehan Kelsey Oswald, who won against Sheana Campbell, Stuart Carson, Brandon Malone, Peter Tyson and Scott Whyte.
Returned unopposed for the Lanarkshire seat were Paul Gostelow of Baker Gostelow, Blantyre and East Kilbride, and Paul Nicolson of Nicolson O'Brien, Airdrie; and for the south west, Paul Matthews of Grieve, Grierson, Moodie & Walker, Dumfries, who keeps his place on Council, and new member Lauren Fowler of Frazer Coogans, Ayr.
Lorna Jack, the Society's chief executive, thanked previous members who were not returned for their "tremendous contribution" over the years, and all who had put themselves forward for election.
The newly returned members will take their places at the Council meeting on 26 May.
