Society seeks Council member to represent new lawyers
A call has gone out to solicitors admitted to the Law Society of Scotland in the past five years to consider joining the Society's Council to represent their peers.
The place on Council reserved for a new lawyers' representative is currently vacant and the Society has opened the selection process to choose a new member.
As the Society’s principal decision making body, Council agrees the Society’s strategy, annual operating plan and budget and takes key policy decisions covering a broad range of areas. It is made up of solicitors elected from geographical constituencies, up to nine co-opted members representing particular interest groups – including the new lawyers' representative – and nine non-solicitor members.
The two year appointment, which starts in March 2016, involves regularly attending Law Society Council meetings (there are nine each year) and representing the views of new lawyers.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 19 February 2016.
Once applications have closed, a selection process and panel interviews will take place. The successful candidate will be invited to attend the March meeting of Council.
