Solicitors for the Elderly launches Scottish arm
An organisation for lawyers who specialise in older and vulnerable clients is extending its membership to professionals across Scotland.
SFE (Solicitors for the Elderly) is a not-for-profit organisation providing training, practical advice, knowhow and best practice for lawyers advising on areas including wills and powers of attorney. Since its launch in 1996, SFE has grown into a membership of over 1,500 lawyers across England & Wales.
Officially launching on 26 January, SFE is keen to recruit more members in Scotland to help support elderly and vulnerable people and to communicate the importance of seeking specialist legal advice.
Benefits offered to members include business referrals, training discounts, access to an extensive online database and various regional and national conferences and networking events.
To become a fully accredited member, lawyers must have a minimum of three years’ experience advising in areas of older client law and have completed the Older Client Care in Practice Award.
Elspeth Paget, regional coordinator for Scotland, commented: “Scotland has been on our radar for a while as an area with a particularly large demand for specialist support in older client care, and we are extremely pleased to be able to extend our member benefits to professionals across the country.
“Our sector is becoming increasingly important as the UK’s population gets older and professional memberships like SFE, which distinguish lawyers who provide the highest level of specialist legal care and support, are needed more now than ever."
