Standard Life's Tyson wins Society Council by-election

25th September 2015 | law society of scotland

Peter Tyson, a solicitor with Standard Life Employee Services Ltd, has won the by-election to fill the vacant seat for the Edinburgh constitutency on the Law Society of Scotland's Council.

Mr Tyson brings the Edinburgh representation up to its full complement of five after coming top in a three cornered contest in which the voting took place using the single transferable method.

He received 122 first preference votes, compared with 79 for Lauren Miller of Morisons and 72 for Andrew Mackenzie of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, and when Mr Mackenzie was eliminated and his supporters' second preference votes counted, Mr Tyson won by 142 to 102. He will join Council at its next meeting on 30 October.

In his personal statement ahead of the election, Mr Tyson undertook to bring his "enthusiasm, commitment, interpersonal skills, to the role, adding: "I have experience in both technical and managerial roles which have given me a broad skillset which I would like to bring to the Council."

He joins Colin Anderson, Brandon Malone, Vikki Melville and current Vice President Eilidh Wiseman as Edinburgh representatives.
