Summary sheriff appointed in Glasgow
Walter Mercer has been appointed a summary sheriff for Glasgow & Strathkelvin.
A member of the Faculty of Advocates, Mr Mercer has been working as a part-time sheriff since 2011 and a member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland for nine years. He practised at the bar between 2000 and 2014 and was appointed as an ad-hoc advocate depute in 2002.
Mr Mercer was nominated by the First Minister for appointment by the Queen, on the basis of a report by the independent Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.
The first appointments to the new post of summary sheriff were announced earlier this month (click here for report).
- Also announced today was the appointment as a member of the Scottish Land Court of Thomas Campbell, a partner in JR&T Campbell, dairy, beef and sheep farmers, West Kilbride, and a former vice chairman of First Milk Ltd. Mr Campbell has a wide range of experience as both a tenant farmer and owner. He will take up his appointment on 19 April 2016, after current member, Angus MacDonald, retires on 3 March.
