SYLA announces May and June events
The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association has announced further events for May and June in its ongoing programme of educational events.
"Beyond the Basics: Instructing Advocates" takes place in Edinburgh on 12 May, with a special focus on the instruction of counsel post the Court Reform (Scotland) Act 2014, which comes into force this autumn. The event will also cover how counsel may be instructed in the new Personal Injury Court.
In the same series, "Mediation Skills" will take place in Glasgow on 21 May. A joint event with the Young Mediators' Group, it will feature experienced mediators, Alan Susskind of Harper Macleod and Jane Fender-Allison of CMS Cameron McKenna.
A social networking event with a difference will be held on 1 June, when Lyon & Turnbull, Scotland's oldest firm of auctioneers, will welcome SYLA members to its Edinburgh auction house. A short talk will be followed by an "informative and fun quiz to improve auction skills", and a wine reception.
Finally, the SYLA annual conference, "Progression in the Profession", focusing on career development and business skills for young legal professionals, returns on Monday 15 June, at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.
