SYLA announces October events

4th October 2018

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) has confirmed its calendar for October, with six different events for a variety of interests. They are:

  • Tuesday 9 October: So you want to be an IP/IT Lawyer? At Burness Paull LLP, Glasgow, this event aims to give an insight into the day to day lives of an IP/IT solicitor from a contentious and non-contentious perspective, with Colin Hulme (Burness Paull) and Yvonne Dunn (Pinsent Masons). Registration from 5.30pm with speakers commencing at 6pm, followed by networking and drinks at 7pm. Sign up here.
  • Tuesday 9 October: SYLA events with Hobbs, at Hobbs, George Street, Edinburgh. To launch SYLA's new partnership with Hobbs, an exclusive evenings with nibbles, fizz and a styling presentation, at 6pm. Hobbs will offer 15% off all purchases made on the evening. Reserve your place here.
  • Wednesday 17 October: More than just a lawyer? Savings and Investments, at Brewin Dolphin, Edinburgh. Join Brewin Dolphin's expert panel for an interactive talk on savings, stock markets and planning for the future, from 6pm. Networking with drinks to follow. Sign up here.
  • Thursday 18 October: So you want to be an employment lawyer? Partnering with Ellis Whittam, this event will give varying insights into the life of an employment lawyer with Employment Judge Frances Eccles, Musab Hemsi, senior employment law adviser at Ellis Whitam and Jen Wright, associate at DWF. It takes place at Ellis Whittam Glasgow, 7th Floor, The Beacon, 176 St Vincent Street, Glasgow from 5.30pm with networking and drinks to follow. Reserve your place here.
  • Tuesday, 23 October: Spotlight on entrepreneurs – the story of Social Bite. Hosted by Trades Hall, Glasgow, this event will hear from Josh Littlejohn, founder of Social Bite, who will explain the story behind the growth of this social enterprise, combining third sector principles with a 21st-century business model. Sign up here.
  • Thursday 25 October: More than just a Lawyer? Your pathway towards a charity trustee role. This event will focus on the opportunities presented by taking on a charity trustee role, with Julie Hutchison, founder of The Informed Trustee, and Scott Fyfe, solicitor at Anderson Strathern LLP. Registration from 5.45pm at Anderson Strathern, 1 Rutland Court, Edinburgh, for 6pm followed by drinks and networking. A number of Edinburgh charities are looking for board members under the age of 35 at present. Sign up here.
