SYLA opens new season with Glasgow/Edinburgh socials
The Scottish Young Lawyers' Association opens its 2015-16 calendar of events this week with social events in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, as it also announces further events in the early part of the new season.
This Thursday, 27 August, from 6pm, SYLA will host a repeat of last year's "Tapas in the City on us" nights. Featuring a quiz, networking and tapas, the events are free for members and will take place simultaneously from 6-9pm in La Tasca, 39-43 Renfield Street, Glasgow and 9 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh.
On 15 September, at MMS, 1 George Street, Glasgow from 6pm, the "So you want to be" series returns, with the first event hosted in conjunction with the Scottish Discrimination Law Association. "So you want to be a discrimination lawyer" will feature Alun Thomas, an accredited specialist in employment law, and Amanda Jones, an accredited specialist in both discrimination and employment law, to discuss what separates discrimination law from employment law; the unique characteristics of discrimination claims; the management of discrimination issues, the potential outcomes and the role of mediation.
Then on 24 September, SYLA will again collaborate with RICS Matrics, the professional body for young surveyors. A joint networking event, entitled "Social Media - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly", will feature a panel of speakers and provide the opportunity for young lawyers to meet young surveyors working across Scotland. This takes place at CMS, 20 Castle Terrace, Edinburgh, from 6.30-9.30pm.
On 29 September, TM Lewin will host their work wardrobe refresh event in their Edinburgh store at 48 George Street, featuring entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity to view the brand new collection through a mini fashion show. Special offers will be available in store on the night.
The "Beyond the Basics" series returns on 26 October, with a look at how to develop financial and commercial awareness. Hosted by RBS at 35 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, the session will feature Scott Foster, relationship director at RBS, and Greig Honeyman of Shepherd & Wedderburn, sharing their experiences.
Tickets for all events are free and can be reserved at the SYLA’s Eventbrite page: syla.eventbrite.co.uk
