SYLA unveils further autumn events
Further events in a busy autumn programme have been announced by the Scottish Young Lawyers' Association. They are:
Thursday, 25 October: Beyond the Basics: Criminal Law Update. This event, with Mackinnon Advocates, will be held at the Insight Institute, University of Strathclyde (Collins Building), 22 Richmond Street, Glasgow, from 5 for 5.30-7.30pm. Topics will be led by Donald Findlay QC and Gary Allan QC, followed by an opportunity for questions, and networking over refreshments. Click here to sign up.
Thursday, 1 November: So you want to be... a banking/insolvency lawyer? The next event in The SYLA's careers series takes place at the Aberdeen Society of Advocates, Concert Court, off Broad Street, Aberdeen. Eilidh Calvert of Brodies and Rebecca Walker of Ledingham Chalmers will give an insight into a typical day working in this area. Thursday, 1 November: Interprofessional Networking and Social. SYLA, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Matrics Edinburgh, CIOB Novus, The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) South East Scotland chapters, Faculty of Actuaries’ Student Society (FASS) and the Property Litigation Association (PLA) team up for an interprofessional social evening in Indigo Yard, 7 Charlotte Lane, Edinburgh, from 6pm for drinks, canapés and networking. Thursday, 22 November: SYLA/WS Society: Adventures in Law. SYLA is collaborating with the WS Society to introduce Adventures in Law, part of their student series. This will take place at the Upper Library at the Signet Library, Parliament Square, Edinburgh from 6-8pm. There will be a panel discussion hosted by Bruce Beveridge WS (former Law Society of Scotland President), and including Caroline Docherty WS (Deputy Keeper of the Signet), Ximena Vengoechea (advocate, Hastie Stable) and Malcolm Mackay WS (United Employment Lawyers). Each panellist will speak about their career before a panel discussion and opportunity for questions, followed by a glass of wine. Click here to book your place.
