Thorntons reports strong growth ahead of mergers

8th January 2015 | practice management

Thorntons, the largest legal firm on Tayside, has reported significant growth its accounts in the year to 31 May 2014.

Revenues were up by 13% to £16.27m, while profit before members’ remuneration jumped by 50% from £2.66m to £3.98m.

Since the last financial year end, Thorntons has mergerd with Fife practices Murray Donald and Steel Eldridge Stewart. It now has 42 partners and more than 400 employees.

Chairman Jack Robertson commented: "Our significant growth in turnover and profit is primarily a result of our focus on certain core strategic areas and is a testament to the hard work of our partners and staff, and the loyalty and support of our clients.

“We’re delighted to have completed the mergers with Steel Eldridge Stewart and Murray Donald in the latter part of 2014 and we are already pursuing new opportunities for the enlarged business."

He predicted that turnover would break through the £20m barrier in the next financial year.
