Thorntons takes "Best Scottish Employer" title
A firm of solicitors has been named as "Best Scottish Employer of the Year" at the Best Employer Awards 2016.
Thorntons won the award, together with the title Large Scottish Employer of the Year (for Scottish-headquartered companies with more than 150 employees), at a ceremony in Glasgow last night.
Run by Business Insider, the awards aim to recognise and reward companies who put employees at the heart of their business, promoting development and health and wellbeing to strive in their industry.
Thorntons employs more than 400 employees across its Dundee headquarters and nine other offices in the east of Scotland. It was also recently recognised in the SME300 for the biggest recruitment rise, having grown in recent years from 229 to 430 employees through a recruitment drive alongside its growth plans.
Chairman Jack Robertson, expressing his delight at the awards, commented: “We have invested in our firm through a number of strategic mergers in recent years and our legal and support teams across all our locations are vital to our continued success. We carried out an employee survey earlier this year and were thrilled with the positive feedback we received from people. As a service business, a high level of colleague engagement is crucial to delivering excellence to clients.
“We continue to invest in our training and internal developments at Thorntons as we look to ensure that our colleagues appreciate the value they add to the firm and our client services.”
