Three solicitors join as Gibson Kerr recruits to expand

14th January 2019 | careers

Edinburgh legal firm Gibson Kerr has announced a series of new appointments to support what it calls a surge of new business.

The firm has recruited three solicitors and two support staff and promoted a paralegal to trainee solicitor, bringing its total staff to 15 – a 25% rise year-on-year.

The new solicitors appointed are Caroline MacBeath and Sue Anne MacAulay, who have joined the Family Law team, and Katie Marshall who will work in the Personal Law department. Louise Clark has been promoted to trainee solicitor in the Property department, while Helen Jackson has joined as practice manager and Ann Burton as legal secretary.

Ms MacBeath, who joins from Legal Services Agency, and Ms MacAulay, recruited from Drummond Miller LLP, are both experienced family law solicitors, while Ms Marshall, an appointment from Somerville & Russell, advises on all aspects of private client work. Ms Clark joined Gibson Kerr as a paralegal after completing her law diploma at Aberdeen University.

The firm said the expansion was driven by significant growth in its Family Law and Personal Law departments, follows the acquisition in 2016 of two Edinburgh firms, Marwicks and Grange.

Partner Scott Rasmusen commented: “The mergers with Marwicks and Grange Solicitors & Estate Agents, and supported by a digital marketing drive, has seen a significant surge in new business.

“We believe clients – especially those who are new to dealing with a solicitor – like our refreshingly friendly approach to legal services."

He added: “The new burst of appointments means we can continue to offer a highly affordable, high quality service to clients – and provide the grounding to underpin the further growth of the firm.”
