Tomkins to advise Scottish Secretary on constitutional points
Professor Adam Tomkins, John Millar Professor of Public Law at the University of Glasgow, has been appointed as an adviser to the Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell.
The post, which is unpaid, will assist the Scotland Office as the Scotland Bill goes through its parliamentary stages.
Professor Tomkins was an active campaigner for the union during the independence referendum and was one of the Conservative representatives on the cross-party Smith Commission which was appointed to make proposals for further devolution following the vote.
Mr Mundell commented: "Professor Tomkins brings unparalleled expertise and depth of knowledge to further support the Scotland Office."
Professor Tomkins said: "It is a great privilege to have been asked to support the Secretary of State for Scotland through this crucial period."
