Tribute to former Society President Michael Park
The Law Society of Scotland has paid tribute to past President Michael Park CBE, who died yesterday, 25 May, at the age of 78.
Mr Park, a former partner in Aberdeen firm Paull & Williamsons, was President of the Society from 1980-81. A litigation lawyer, he was involved in the first fatal accident inquiries relating to the North Sea oil and gas industry, and acted for Occidental Petroleum at the time of the Piper Alpha disaster. In 1988 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Current President Christine McLintock commented: "Michael was an excellent President and worked tirelessly to represent Scottish solicitors. We were sad to hear the news of his death and extend our condolences to Michael’s family at this difficult time.
“Michael was proud to be a Scottish solicitor and was highly regarded by his peers. His wide knowledge of the law and its many practice areas was immensely beneficial to the Law Society when he was President. His passion and commitment to his clients, the profession and all it stands for was unstinting.”
