"Tumbling Lassie" proceeds confirmed at £27,300
This year's "Tumbling Lassie" events, orgainsed by the Faculty of Advocates to raise funds to combat human trafficking and support its victims, have raised a confirmed total of £27,300.
The Faculty today tweeted the figure, which easily tops the £14,000 and £17,000 realised in previous years and shared between Community Safety Glasgow’s Trafficking Awareness Raising Alliance (TARA) and International Justice Mission (IJM).
A third Tumbling Lassie Ball, featuring the world premiere of the Tumbling Lassie Operetta, by author Alexander McCall Smith and his musical collaborator, Tom Cunningham, was held at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh on 14 April, following a Tumbling Lassie Seminar earlier the same day at which experts in the field discussed ways of disrupting trafficking.
The events are named after a 17th century case featuring a travelling showgirl known only as the Tumbling Lassie, who was protected by the Court of Session from claims to property in her by the proprietor of the show.
Speaking soon after the events, the organising committee said they had been "truly overwhelmed and humbled by the response we have had to the Tumbling Lassie events this year".
