UK Supreme Court begins search for next President
The process has begun for the selection of the next President of the UK Supreme Court, with the pending retiurement of Lady Hale in January 2020.
At the same time two, and possibly three, new Justices will require to be appointed, as Lord Carnwath is due to retire in March 2020 and Lord Wilson in May 2020.
The appointments process will be overseen by two independent selection commissions, convened by the Lord Chancellor under rules set by Parliament. The membership of the commissions is prescribed in the statute and in the Supreme Court (Judicial Appointments) Regulations 2013. They include Nicola Gordon, chair of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.
