Will Aid launches 2018 campaign

Will Aid has begun a drive to encourage solicitors' firms to join in its 2018 charity will-writing campaign, the 30th year it has run.

Taking place every November, the initiative involves legal firms across the country pledging a portion of their time to write basic wills, with clients donating their fee to a good cause. It aims to encourage the estimated 51% of the population who still do not have a will, to make one while benefiting those in need. Solicitors then have more wills in their bank which may in time lead to executry business.

The scheme, which does not have an age limit and is open to anyone who wants to write a will, supports nine leading UK charities, including include ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland). Will Aid has raised more than £20m since it launched 30 years ago.

James Tarleton, chair of Will Aid commented: “We are very grateful to the solicitors and all those that used the scheme, for their generous contribution.

“The nine partner charities use donations and legacies from will makers to reach people in crisis, both here in the UK and all around the world.

“As well as providing the suggested donation, many people who make their wills through Will Aid, use this opportunity to provide support to their favourite charities through a gift in their wills.

“These legacies make a great difference and we are very thankful for those who choose to support our work in this way.”

He added: “Solicitors raised an incredible amount of money in 2017, but we need more if we are to satisfy demand.”

They also benefited from access to publicity, improving their visibility and introducing them to new clients.
