Women in Law Scotland announce Women's Day debate details

5th March 2018

Women in Law Scotland have announced details of their second annual debate, in aid of International Women’s Day.

This year’s debate will take place on Wednesday 21 March 2018, hosted by CMS in Edinburgh.

To mark #PressforProgress, this year's motion for debate is "This House believes that quotas are necessary for women to break through the glass ceiling".

The debate will welcome back David Bryson (legal counsel at Baillie Gifford) and Roddy Macpherson (messenger at arms and sheriff officer, Rutherford & Macpherson), both experienced debaters who contributed to a successful event last year. Joining their teams this year will be Kirsty Hood QC (Hastie Stable) and Kay Springham QC (Compass Chambers).

Whilst the debate will not necessarily reflect the speakers' personal beliefs or opinions, Women in Law Scotland hope it will be a platform for some thought-provoking discussion around equality within the Scottish legal profession, as well as providing a chance for networking or catching up with friends, colleagues and contacts.

Sponsored by Frasia Wright Associates, the evening will be rounded off with a glass of fizz or a soft drink and all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Lawscot Foundation, the Law Society of Scotland's charity to help talented students from less advantaged backgrounds through their legal education.

Click here for further information and to purchase tickets. The cost is £5 plus a 98p booking fee.
