Women in Law to debate "failure" of legal profession

Has the legal profession failed working women? The question is the subject of the first debate to be staged by the recently formed Women in Law Scotland (WiLS), taking place on International Women's Day, 8 March 2017.

Arguing for or against the motion “This House believes the legal profession has failed working women” will be David Bryson, legal counsel at Baillie Gifford; Caroline Kelly, partner and solicitor advocate at Thorntons solicitors; Ximena Vengoechea, advocate at Hastie Stable; Roddy Macpherson, messenger at arms and sheriff officer, Rutherford & Macpherson; Val Dougan professional support lawyer at CMS and member of the Law Society of Scotland's Equality & Diversity Committee; and Joyce Cullen, partner at Brodies LLP.

Whilst the debate, chaired by Christine McLintock, Past President of the Law Society of Scotland, will not necessarily reflect the speakers' personal beliefs or opinions, WiLS hopes the event will provide a platform for some thought-provoking discussion around equality within the Scottish legal profession, as well as a chance for networking or catching up with friends, colleagues and contacts.

Sponsored by Frasia Wright Associates, the event takes place at the Royal Faculty of Procurators, Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow, from 5.45-7.45pm. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to lawyers' support charity LawCare.
