Alan Collins
Alan is a specialist in complex personal injury and clinical negligence cases including child abuse cases in UK, and abroad.
He has successfully represented clients in high profile litigation such as the Jersey "Haut de la Garenne" case, and has represented clients in the Stuart Hall, Max Clifford, and Jimmy Savile cases.
He has also successfully acted for clients in particularly complex sexual abuse cases for example Green Fields House which was a home for "maladjusted" boys in Maidenhead who were abused during the 1960's by the warden Don Prescot and others.
Alan has recently successfully concluded litigation brought in relation to child migration to Australia and Southern Rhodesia.
Alan was instrumental in the creation of the Jersey Redress Scheme.
Other successful cases of note include that of Derek Slade the expat who sexually abused young boys in the Philippines; and Timothy Bleach (the teacher from Hampshire convicted in 2016 of rape and other very serious sexual offences).
Alan is currently representing victims of Joseph McCann the kidnapper and serial rapist.
Alan has experience of representing interested parties before public inquiries including the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, and IICSA. He was the advocate to the People's Tribunal which presented its report on sexual abuse to the UK Parliament (in 2016).
Alan is a regular media contributor on serious personal injury and child abuse issues. He has regularly appeared on BBC and ITN news, GB News, LBC, Times Radio, Channel 4 News, ABC, CNN, NBC, and Sky News programmes, also BBC Radio 4's "Today", and "PM"; Radio 5; BBC and ITV regional television and radio, Australian radio, and US, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Danish television.
In 2007 Alan addressed the National Australian Lawyers' Association annual conference, and is a speaker at conferences on legal issues: UNICEF; APIL; La Trobe University; University of Wales; Law Society of Scotland; Strathclyde University; and Dyfed-Powys Police. He also chairs and hosts the annual Hugh James/NSPCC abuse conference.
Alan is also solicitor- advocate with considerable experience of both criminal and civil litigation. He is also a qualified mediator.
