Angus Crawford

Expert Trainer and Experienced Trial Lawyer
Expert Advocacy UK Limited

Angus is an experienced trial lawyer, with a career spanning over 25 years. Throughout his professional journey, Angus has conducted hundreds of trials and procedural hearings in the Scottish Courts.

Angus plays a prominent role in legal education and training. He serves as a lead trainer at the Scottish Prosecution College for The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), where he is instrumental in shaping the skills of Procurator Fiscals Depute, Advocate Deputes, and trainee Procurator Fiscals Deputes. Angus is also involved in the selection process for Procurator Fiscal Deputes who seek Higher Rights of Audience in the High Court of Justiciary as Solicitor Advocates.

Angus holds a training position with Expert Advocacy UK Limited and is recognised as an accredited trainer under the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) system. His advocacy training expertise extends to organisations such as the Public Defender’s Office for Scotland (PDSO) and the Civil Legal Assistance Office for Scotland (CLAO).

Angus holds an LLB in Scots Law and a Master of Laws (LLM) with a specialisation in Advocacy, Mediation, Negotiation, and Arbitration. His Master’s dissertation, titled ‘A Comparative Study of the War Rhetoric of Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and George W. Bush’, delved into the rhetorical teachings of Aristotle (384–322 BC) and Cicero (106–43 BC). He fervently supports the inclusion of ‘Rhetoric’ in the curriculum for aspiring legal professionals.

Angus provides training to a wide range of organisations, including NHS Scotland, forensic scientists at The Scottish Police Authority, Police Scotland, HMRC, and the Scottish Fire Service. His primary focus is on best practices for expert and professional witnesses, ensuring they are thoroughly prepared to deliver expert evidence in court.

Angus is a visiting lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University Law School where he co-ordinates the Advocacy Training Programme for undergraduates. He is also a visiting scholar in the Department of Applied Chemistry, where he delivers expert witness training to undergraduate and M.Sc. Forensic Science students. His international contributions include providing expert witness training to undergraduate science students from the University of San Jose, California and the University of Windsor, Canada.

Additionally, Angus serves as joint co-ordinator for the Forensic Medical Science Evening Seminar Series at the University of Strathclyde, lecturing on the legal aspects of Forensic Medical Science.

Angus is dedicated to training both emerging and seasoned legal professionals in trial advocacy. He is equally committed to equipping expert and professional witnesses with the skills necessary to present evidence effectively in court. Beyond advocacy, Angus delivers training on Individual and Institutional Bias, addressing the impact of bias on decision-making processes.
