Brianella Scott

Assistant Solicitor
Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry within the Scottish Government

Brianella Scott is an Assistant Solicitor to the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry within the Scottish Government. Prior to this role, Brianella completed her traineeship at Harper Macleod LLP before qualifying into the Energy and Natural Resources team. She completed her LLB at the University of Stirling, and then went on to complete her Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde.

Brianella Scott is serving her second term as the Secretary of the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA). In her role as secretary, Brianella has a passion for representation and social mobility within the profession and advocates for gender and racial equity, reverse mentoring, intersectionality and allyship. Brianella founded the SYLA’s Mental Health Matters podcast series during the pandemic. The podcast aims to create a safe platform which promotes open dialogue, honesty and transparency while addressing pertinent mental health topics such as Imposter Syndrome, Burnout and Anxiety, which are endemic within the profession.

Outside of work and the SYLA, Brianella is a mentor with the Law Society of Scotland’s Mentoring Scheme and a committee member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Racial Inclusion Group, which aims to understand the lived and professional experiences of minority ethnic members of the Scottish legal profession.
