Dr Katie Benson
Dr Katie Benson is Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Manchester. She is Programme Director for the MSc Financial Crime and Compliance in Digital Societies and conducts research in the areas of financial crime, (anti-)money laundering, organisational (non-)compliance and regulation. A primary research focus is the anti-money laundering regulation and supervision of the legal sector, and role of legal professionals in facilitating money laundering. She has published widely on this topic, including the 2020 book, Lawyers and the Proceeds of Crime: The Facilitation of Money Laundering and its Control, which won the American Society of Criminology Division of White-Collar and Corporate Crime Outstanding Book Award 2022.
Katie is also an Associate Fellow at the RUSI Centre for Finance and Security. Previously, Katie worked as Knowledge Manager for the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency and as an intelligence analyst within UK law enforcement. She has worked with, or provided advisory/consultancy services to, various government bodies, law enforcement organisations, research institutions, and investigations.
