She has extensive experience of the principal arbitration institutions and rules, as well as deep knowledge and practical experience of both common and civil law systems. She has worked on disputes worldwide, with a particular focus on France, Scotland, England, the Middle East and Africa.

Environmental disputes have been a feature of Gillian's practice for many years. She is a signatory of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations Pledge and is a member of the UK Environmental Law Association.

Whenever there is an opportunity, Gillian enjoys helping disputants manage and resolve conflict through walking.

Debates surrounding the creation of the new Arbitration Act 2025 (England & Wales and Northern Ireland) included discussion on preventing fraud and corruption in arbitration. While no fraud-focused amendments made it into the final Act, such discussions have reiterated that fraud and corruption are an important concern for arbitration in all jurisdictions. Gillian Carmichael Lemaire, Arbitrator & Mediator, and Chair of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, will shine a spotlight on fraud and corruption in arbitration with a focus on Scotland.
