Kirsty McGuinness
Kirsty is a Partner in the family law team. She is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law, a CORE Mediator, a Collaborative Lawyer as well as accredited by the Law Society of Scotland in Family Mediation. She has experience in all areas of family law and represents clients throughout Scotland. She has practiced family law exclusively for twelve years, with experience in both the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session. Despite her litigation experience, she is committed to, and enthusiastic about, resolving disputes away from the court setting, wherever possible. Kirsty is a qualified collaborative lawyer and has a reputation for building good relationships with clients, solicitors and other professional advisors.
Kirsty was previously a member of the Legal Group within the British Association for Adoption and Fostering in Scotland and of the Children’s Panel in North Lanarkshire. Her involvement in both of these organisations developed her interest in child law and contributed to her firm belief that, in helping adults resolve their disputes, she has a responsibility to be mindful of the interests of any children involved and to remind other adults of this responsibility.
As well as helping clients work through relationship breakdowns, Kirsty has extensive experience in the preparation of prenuptial, postnuptial and cohabitation agreements.
Kirsty is a member of the Family Law Association, having previously served as a committee member and as the Association’s secretary. In that capacity, she was involved in promoting legal education and organising family law training. She has written on many aspects of family law and continues to be involved in the delivery of family law seminars.
