Michael Byrne

Senior Legal Counsel
Lumine Group

Michael qualified as a solicitor in 2014 and has been working in-house since 2018. He is employed as a senior legal counsel at Lumine Group, a Canadian listed technology company, having previously been Lead Commercial Counsel and head of the global Commercial Legal Team at a US-headquartered SaaS company.

He has been a member of the Law Society's In-house Lawyers Committee since 2019 and from 2017 to 2022 he served on the board of directors of a charity, Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD).

Michael obtained certification as an AI Governance Professional (AIGP) from the IAPP in February 2025.

In his spare time (when not running around after his daughters), Michael enjoys training his dog, cycling, hill walking and military history.

An opportunity for in-house solicitors in the first few years post-qualification to come together and talk openly about their early experiences in the profession. This online session is targeted at in-house NQs and provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, reflect on the transition into qualified practice, and discuss career ambitions, challenges, and wellbeing.
