Robin Turnbull

Legal Director
Anderson Strathern

Robin is an Accredited Specialist in Employment Law by the Law Society of Scotland. He advises on both contentious and non-contentious employment, diversity and education matters, to both private and public sector employers in the UK, and also acts for employees.

When it comes to Employment Tribunal advocacy, he is one of the most experienced at his level in Scotland. He has an enviable success rate of over 90% for over 35 substantive hearings in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal, and has not lost since 2015.

In a recent case in which he successfully defended an employer, it was noted in the judgment by the Tribunal that he had “conducted his client’s case with skill, professionalism and restraint, and his submissions were a model of clarity and logic.”

Drawing on his litigation experience, Robin delivers everyday practical advice to HR professionals, in-house legal counsel and senior managers of businesses, and public sector and education bodies.

He provides all the key employment law documentation to help prevent and resolve disputes swiftly, including settlement agreements. Robin also delivers bespoke training on a whole range of employment law issues, including investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes, TUPE, and the Equality Act. His knowledge and experience in data protection and human rights is often of great value to clients, as these areas are often important in the employment context. Robin tutored at the University of Edinburgh and has spoken at events for the Association of European Lawyers.

After successfully defending Acas against claims of whistleblowing, unfair dismissal and breach of contract, the client commented: “Your professionalism was first class and I’d definitely recommend you to anyone needing help with their employment.”

A keen sportsman, Robin is a member of a number of rugby, racket sports and ski clubs – but spends more of his time dining out in Edinburgh.
