Qualifying and education

We provide a range of support for people who want to qualify as a Scottish solicitor. Our dedicated team deals with enquiries from; members of the public about how to qualify as a solicitor, students who have set out on their legal education paths, trainees on the final stages of their qualification journeys and members who are looking for advice about career progression.

Qualifying as a Scottish solicitor

Find out the routes to qualify as a Scottish solicitor; including studying the LLB and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, alternatives to university and how to requalify from other jurisdictions.

Career support and advice

We have a dedicated careers team, who provide advice on employability skills, entry to the profession and career growth.

Support for school pupils

A key part of our work is to assure fair access to the legal profession, so we do a range of work with Scottish schools. Find out about our Street Law programme, schools debating tournament and careers events.

Lawscot Foundation

Our charity helps support aspiring solicitors to reach their dreams, by funding them through the LLB and Diploma. Support from the profession is essential to our work.

Funding your education

Find out about what funding options are available to law students, including loans for the LLB and Diploma and grants and bursaries available for you to apply to.

Paralegal Practice Certificate

The course is run over two years, the first year lays the foundations of the necessary skills and legal knowledge for the paralegal and the second year deals with the parameters of the paralegal’s role and helps to build specialisation.
