The traineeship framework
There are six essential steps to every traineeship. Use the links below to learn about each step.
Training Contracts
It is only once the entrance certificate is gained that trainees can and must return a training contract signed by themselves and their employer.
Work towards the PEAT 2 outcomes
During the 2 year traineeship, trainees will be given activities that will allow them to work towards the PEAT2 outcomes.
PEAT 2 quarterly performance reviews (PQPR)
PQPRs allows the trainee and supervising solicitor to review the trainee's progress and will help identify any training needs, which can be addressed by undertaking TCPD.
Required CPD for trainees
Trainees are required to complete 60 hours of CPD for trainees to ensure they meet the outcomes and reach the standard of a qualifying solicitor.
Applying for admission as a trainee?
Visit our pages containing specific guidance about admission during, or at the end of the traineeship. There are different forms that you may need to complete and processes to be aware of.
Discharging a training contract
Once you have reached the end of your traineeship, your training contract must be discharged and you are entitled to apply for a full unrestricted practising certificate. Find out what's involved in this process.
Update your online record regularly
The PEAT 2 Record will allow trainees to monitor their progress during the traineeship and record achievements along the way. The content will form the basis of the quarterly performance reviews with their supervising solicitor.
