No Irish PCs for qualified lawyers practising outside of Ireland
The Law Society of Ireland has confirmed that it will only provide practising certificates to solicitors admitted and enrolled in Ireland if they are practising in Ireland. Although the Society had issued guidance earlier in the year suggesting that this was their position, this confirmation was the result of an in-depth review of their policy and practice in relation to the issuing of PCs, the purpose of which was to "realign the regulatory framework in light of Brexit and to make the framework legally robust."
We know that since the EU referendum a number of our members have undergone the Law Society of Ireland's examination process in order to requalify in Ireland. If you are going to be affected by this decision and have any concerns, please contact our Head of International, Katie Hay.
