Meet the Policy team

One of the Policy Team's key functions is to help ensure that new laws or changes to existing ones are clear and will work in practice. We work closely with our network of over 30 policy committees, sub-committees and working groups on behalf of the profession and the public to improve the law and legal system in Scotland. 

Part of this process involves commenting on consultations from the Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament, UK Parliament, Scottish Law Commission and other agencies and you can find out more about this work on our website.

Michael P. Clancy

Michael Clancy is a Scottish solicitor and our Director of Law Reform. Michael looks after a number of areas of law and policy including constitutional law, human rights, immigration and asylum.

Jennifer Paton

Jennifer Paton is a Scottish solicitor and our Head of Policy. Prior to joining the Society in 2019, she worked in a variety of roles in private practice and the third sector. In addition to looking after the Policy team and strategy, Jennifer supports the Society's work on Mental Health and Disability Law.

Fiona Menzies

Fiona Menzies is a Scottish solicitor and our Policy Manager. Fiona looks after a number of areas of law and focusses on access to justice and legal aid issues.

Terri Cairns

Terri is one of our Policy Executives and leads on a number of areas including charity law, child and family law and health and medical Law. Terri has previously worked in public sector roles with a Public Inquiry and the Procurator Fiscal Service.

Elaine MacGlone

Elaine MacGlone is a Scottish solicitor and our Equality and Diversity Manager. Elaine works to progress equality and diversity within the legal profession and looks after our equalities law and policy work.

Richard Male

Richard is a Scottish solicitor and one of our Policy Executives. Richard leads on a number of areas including contract and delict, insolvency, banking, company and competition law. He is also qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and his previous experience includes in-house and private practice work.

Adam Marks

Dr Adam Marks is our International Policy Executive. Adam works to deliver our international strategy, promoting the work of the Society and the Scottish legal profession on an international stage.

Liliana Torres Jimenez

Liliana is a Colombian senior lawyer specialising in criminal procedure law. She joined the Society as an executive in our Research and is now a Policy Executive, looking after our criminal law work.
