We all recognise that technology, now dominating headlines and becoming a increasing presence in our professional lives, plays a pivotal role in the effective practice of law. Nevertheless, it can often be a source of frustration, mystery, and missed opportunities for lawyers.
Our newest Certification Course is designed for lawyers across all practice areas, regardless of technological competency. The aim is to create an inclusive and engaging experience for lawyers who want to learn more about legal technology and the practical ways that it can benefit you and your firm. We will not only articulate why legal tech is important and will continue to grow in dominance, but also explain how to implement these changes regardless of your firm's size or background. Through equipping you with both practical skills and a good working knowledge of the field, this course will enable you to return to your firms with abilities and insight that can enhance your personal productivity, your team's efficiency, and even the output of your firm.
By becoming a Tech-Informed lawyer, you will be better prepared to navigate a rapidly changing business world, develop highly valued skills to propel your career and business forward, and be in an optimal position to serve your clients in the modern way that they expect.
The course is made up of 6 short online interactive tutorials (12 hours CPD), a written assignment (4 hours CPD) and 4 hours of private study. Successful completion of this course will also result in Law Society of Scotland Certification valid for 3 years before renewal.

What have people said about training with Ally Thomson?
Fantastic course, with a truly engaging facilitator. Highly recommend to anyone with a desire to improve their understanding of legal tech and better harness their existing capabilities.
The course was a great opportunity to learn about current technological developments and products designed specially for the legal market. However, being able to discuss the opportunities (and struggles!) to promote the effective use of legal technology in our own area of practice, with like minded solicitors from varying legal backgrounds was incredibly useful.
The course content was highly engaging. Ally’s expertise in technology and online projects since 2005 was evident throughout. The material was presented in manageable chunks, allowing me to learn at my own pace. Ally’s practical insights into legal technology were invaluable. From understanding emerging trends to navigating the digital landscape, the course provided real-world applications that I can immediately implement in my practice. In summary, the Legal Technology Certification Course with Ally Thomson is a must for any lawyer looking to stay ahead in the ever-evolving legal tech landscape. Kudos to Ally and the Law Society of Scotland for offering such a valuable learning opportunity!
The course was really informative and I came away with lots of practical tips which I shall be sharing with my team and putting into practice. It was also really useful to also learn about what other legal practices are doing in terms of tech and learning about their challenges but also the solutions that they'd found. I look forward to putting what I've learned into practice and feel more confident in trying it the technologies we discussed and explored during the course.
Ally has been an insightful & engaging communicator bringing to life in an effective and really practical way the challenges faced in navigating Legal Tech. And then he shows or gives you waypoints as to where the solutions might lie. The participants were from a diverse range of practice sizes and sectors and I think all will have gone away learning something and invigorated about the real wins for our clients, our staff and firm as a whole that can be gained from embracing Legal Tech in how we do our business.
A highly engaging, informative and useful course to help guide you through the ever changing tech jungle, highly recommended!
Having watched Ally on Hey Legal I knew the course would be interesting given his involvement in the sector and the tech and it was something out of the normal day job that was of interest to me - I have learned a lot of information about what is out there and met some new colleagues who share the same interest in adopting Legal Tech. Really enjoyed the course and the knowledge sharing will continue on.
