AML guidance for legal sector updated
The Legal Sector Affinity Group (LSAG) has updated its HM Treasury-approved anti-money laundering (AML) compliance guidance for the legal sector.
LSAG, which is made up of all the UK AML regulators for legal services including the Law Society of Scotland, has issued the fresh guidance as part of its continued commitment to help and support legal professionals comply with applicable AML obligations in their day-to-day roles.
The April 2025 amendments include:
- information on the applicability of the Economic Crime Levy for firms with an annual turnover of more than £10.2 million
- updated guidance on the receipt of Third Party Source of Funds contributions
- the introduction of a new high-risk third country definition
- details on the requirement for Overseas Entities wishing to buy, sell or transfer property or land in the UK to register with Companies House.
A full list of the changes can be found within the Schedule of Amendments of the updated guidance.
The April 2025 LSAG guidance replaces that issued in March 2023 and the December 2023 addendum.
