Annual Conference 2016 - Leading Legal Excellence
The Rt Hon Lady Dorrian, who made history this year on her appointment as the first female Lord Justice Clerk of Scotland, will give the opening keynote speech at the Law Society of Scotland’s annual conference this month.
Lady Dorrian, who will examine the role of solicitors in our society, will also be joined by high profile legal blogger, Financial Times columnist and solicitor David Allen Green, who will offer his analysis on Brexit so far at the Edinburgh conference ‘Leading Legal Excellence: Succeeding at the heart of society’ on 30 September.
Professor Steve Peters will inform delegates on how to manage their ‘inner chimp’ during his talk on ‘Optimising the performance of the human mind’. Professor Peters,CEO of Chimp Management, is a former NHS consultant psychiatrist and made his name following his appointment to the hugely successful British cycling team.
Leading health and safety lawyer Laura Cameron, partner and head of Pinsent Masons’ Risk Advisory Services Group and described by Legal 500 as having ‘huge depth of knowledge’ and ‘excellent at communicating her advice’, will examine corporate accountability.
Eilidh Wiseman, President of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “We have a terrific line up of speakers this year who have a wealth of experience from across a range of backgrounds and disciplines at our conference this year.
“In addition to addressing some of the biggest issues affecting the profession today, including Scotland’s newly devolved powers, Brexit - which will of course have significant on all us personally as well as professionally, human rights and migration in Europe, we will also be looking at how solicitors can grow their businesses and develop their skills which can help them at work orin other roles such as non-executive board and trustee appointments.
“With more than 30 speakers and panellists exploring a wide range of topics at this year’s conference, it means that there really is something for everyone whether our delegates are working in-house or in private practice; are managing partners or at the earliest stages of their career. I’m very much looking forward to hearing what our speakers have to say and the insight they can offer.”
In addition to four keynote addresses, there are streamed sessions with seminars and discussion panels on business development, career and personal growth, and justice and rule of law.
