Award win for employee feedback dashboard which supports staff wellbeing
A daily dashboard that asks employees five quick questions at the start of the day creating helpful management insight, has won the Law Society of Scotland’s 2025 Innovation Cup.
Emma Reid, co-founder and director of Ergo Law, has won with a dashboard designed to generate employee feedback data and present it in a clear snapshot of each solicitor’s caseload, capacity and pressure points, with the information being used to help support employee wellbeing.
Paul Crawley, Senior Claims Technician, presented Emma with the award. She will receive a £1,500 prize from Intact Insurance (formerly RSA), and brokers in Lockton will work alongside selected experts to develop the winning idea into a working product.
Emma said: “As the co-owner of a specialist firm, I know that innovation, keeping pace with change and seizing opportunities is key to the success of our business. Our business is employment law and workplace relations, and we are often involved to advise when things go wrong at work. As part of our practice, we see the outcomes and risks when teams are not working well, communication breaks down or individuals are struggling with sustained stress. I also know it is often possible to avoid those risks and secure good outcomes (for clients and staff) when workplace relations are underpinned by good communication and effective support between team members and managers.
“I wanted to come up with an idea that brings all those points into focus- technology, communication and great management to help managers and partners like me, ensure the wellbeing of their team and cement good working relationships- even when work pressure increases. As a partner with a team carrying varied and busy caseloads, it is exactly the kind of tool that I would love to have on my desktop.”
Ed Ambrose, Head of Professional Indemnity, said: “Intact are delighted to award Emma as the winner for this year’s Innovation Cup. Emma’s idea stood out as we recognise that good mental health is an important factor and a hot topic for the industry. We are pleased to support the implementation of this initiative to benefit both the risk management and well-being of the profession.”
John Mulholland, Convener of the Law Society’s Insurance Committee, said: “Congratulations to Emma on her outstanding dashboard idea. The judges were impressed with the focus on the mental health of solicitors and on how this tool will help them and their managers develop a healthier work approach.
“Good mental health in the workplace is paramount to reduce risk in the profession. The Innovation Cup celebrates innovation across the legal profession and with this win, we believe Emma’s idea will help solicitors continue to improve the management of their workload.”
The Innovation Cup, now in its eighth year, is open to Scottish legal professionals and law students to submit ideas for risk management products, tools, or strategies.
