2019 Scottish legal award winner blogs Community dedication leads to top award
Managing director of Scullion LAW, Nicolas Scullion describes how their dedication to the community resulted in their scooping of the Commitment to the Community Award at the Scottish Legal Awards 2019.
The community is at the heart of everything we do at Scullion LAW. We are small enough to know what is going on in the local area and we feel it is our duty to go above and beyond, because we are more than just a law firm. We are a dementia friendly firm. All our staff are trained to help people living with dementia. Our two main charities are Alzheimer Scotland and Marie Curie. We have been writing wills free of charge for the over 55s in Scotland for five successful years. Some clients make cash gifts, while others have left a share of their estate in their Will and through their generosity the scheme has raised a substantial amount of future income for the Marie Curie hospice of which we are very proud. It is a charity close to our hearts.
We are immensely grateful to our clients for their continued support and generous contributions.
In addition to fundraising we work closely with local schools to organise an interschool debating competition which is now in its tenth year and has seen motions passed through the Scottish Parliament with MSPs commenting that it is an excellent example of a local firm engaging with the pupils, schools and communities around us… there is so much more we still want to do. It feels good to give and excellent to receive this phenomenal recognition from our peers. I am really humbled and proud to have won this award and I would like to thank our entire team for all their hard work, for making this special award possible.
