Dickson Minto becomes Lawscot Foundation platinum sponsor
Academically gifted students from less advantaged backgrounds in Scotland will have their aspirations of a legal education realised as law firm Dickson Minto agrees to donate £10,000 to the Lawscot Foundation.
As platinum sponsor, the Edinburgh based firm will in essence, fund a Lawscot Foundation bursary recipient’s four year law degree.
Bruce Minto, partner at Dickson Minto, said, “We are genuinely delighted to sponsor the Lawscot Foundation, providing much deserved support to talented students who might not otherwise be able to become lawyers. This is an investment in the future of our profession, which will benefit greatly from the contributions of gifted and tenacious individuals.”
Dickson Minto is also offering each of the Foundation’s students the opportunity to meet with one of its experienced solicitors to chat about the law degree and gain insight into the traineeship application process and life as a solicitor. It will also give each of the Foundation’s bursary recipients the opportunity to interview for a work placement.
Christine McLintock, Chair of the Lawscot Foundation said, “We are absolutely thrilled that our colleagues at Dickson Minto have agreed to become platinum sponsors of the Lawscot Foundation.
“We believe that access to a legal career should be based on ability rather than financial circumstances and we rely on the support and generosity of the profession to remove financial barriers.
“Over and above much needed financial support, Dickson Minto is generously sharing its time and expertise, providing the students with valuable experience and insight. We very much look forward to working together.”
Established by the Law Society of Scotland in 2016, the purpose of the Lawscot Foundation is to remove financial barriers between gifted students from lower socio economic backgrounds and their access to the profession.
As part of a broader strategic aim around equality and diversity, the Foundation not only provides financial assistance, but bursary recipients, all of whom are the first in their family to attend university, also receive invaluable mentoring from an experienced Scottish solicitor.
