EU referendum - how will it affect you?
Following the UK General Election, it’s clear there will be a referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union. This is likely to occur by the end of 2017 but may be held earlier.
As with last year’s debate on Scottish Independence, the Law Society will remain neutral on the issue of EU membership. In our annual survey last year, members told us they thought it important for their professional body to remain impartial and not take a position one way or another.
However, just as with the 2014 referendum, we want to play a full and active role in the debate to come. We look forward to holding events and asking searching questions of both sides as the debate moves forward.
To help start that work, we want to know what you think. We want to know how the EU impacts you and your work as a solicitor. We want to understand what you think works well when it comes to Europe and what you would like to change.
That's why we're asking members to complete our short online survey, which will be open until 31 July. It only takes a few minutes to complete and the feedback we receive will help shape our work over the coming months.
Thank you for your help and we look forward to hearing your views.
