Fife solicitor struck off the roll of solicitors
Fife solicitor William Walls, who was jailed for eight months after embezzling more than £250,000 from his aunt, has been struck from the roll of solicitors.
Following an investigation by the Law Society of Scotland, the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal (SSDT) has found Mr Walls guilty of professional misconduct in connection with breaches of the accounting rules in the course of his work as sole partner of Fife based firm, McQuittys.
Chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland, Lorna Jack said, “It is vital that individuals and in particular, vulnerable people, can continue to place their trust in Scottish solicitors and that their interests are protected, should things go wrong.
“We take our regulatory role very seriously and will intervene when we suspect that any of our members has failed to meet the Society’s high professional standards, in the course of their work as a Scottish solicitor.
“We will prosecute a solicitor for conduct matters before the independent Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal when necessary. The SSDT can censure, fine, suspend and in the most serious cases, strike a solicitor from the roll.”
