First General Accreditation awarded to high-performing paralegal

19th November 2025 | Law Society news , Professional support

Emma Hamilton, a Senior Paralegal and Business Development Lead at Complete Clarity Solicitors, has become the first person to be awarded the Law Society of Scotland’s new General Accreditation for high-performing paralegals.

Ms Hamilton – who also won Paralegal of the Year 2025 at the Denovo Scottish Legal Awards – demonstrated the core competencies set out by the Law Society’s Accredited Paralegal Committee and high-level skills and experience.

Sharon Connolly, Convener of the Accredited Paralegal Committee, said: “I am delighted to welcome Emma to the Accredited Paralegal Scheme being the first to be accredited in our General Accreditation launched recently.

“It is great that we can recognise skills of paralegals such as Emma where we do not currently have a specific practice area which meets the work they do. This gives the paralegal recognition and their colleagues, other agents and clients confidence knowing that there are competencies, skills, ethics and attitudes held by the paralegal. I look forward to welcoming more paralegals to the Scheme.”

Emma said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have achieved my general paralegal accreditation. I have a wide range of experience across family law, housing and repossession matters, and it’s a true honour and career milestone to have been awarded this accreditation. I can truly say it means the world.

“This recognition highlights the valuable contribution me and many other paralegals make to the legal profession and the important role we play in supporting clients. I’m looking forward to building on this achievement and continuing to promote the recognition of accredited paralegals across the sector.”
