Fraud alert - Law Society
What’s the scam?
We have been made aware of a scam email purporting to be from the Law Society of Scotland. The email which has been sent to some of our members asks for payment for their membership.
What should I do?
If you receive an email asking you to pay to renew your membership, please ensure you and your colleagues do not respond to the email and do not click on any links or make a payment online. The practising certificate renewal process for the practising year 2023/24 has now closed.
Scammers are opportunistic and sophisticated. While none of us can prevent fraudsters imitating firms and organisations, we can all take steps to ensure that we are as protected as possible, such as consistency in communications to make sure clients and contacts know what to expect.
You can find further information about the threats of cybercrime and action you can take in our Guide to Cybersecurity.
Where a fraud is suspected or taken place, it should be reported directly to Police Scotland. Find out more about reporting online crime in Scotland.
