Honorary Membership nominations invited for Law Society's 75th anniversary

11th September 2024 | Law Society news

The Law Society of Scotland is inviting nominations for Honorary Membership for outstanding service for the public good by a Scottish solicitor.

To mark its 75th anniversary, the Law Society has opened nominations for the award which is normally presented once every two years. The most recent recipients of this accolade were Glasgow solicitor Michael Samuel and former Journal editor Peter Nicholson in 2023.

Susan Murray, President of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “Honorary Membership is our most prestigious accolade and recognises those who have gone above and beyond during their career as a Scottish solicitor.

"As part of our 75th anniversary celebrations this year, we are creating an additional opportunity for members to nominate a solicitor for their outstanding service to the public good by using their legal knowledge and skills to bring positive change to the legal landscape, improving people’s lives and benefitting our wider society.

“We very much look forward to receiving nominations.”

Honorary Membership nominations

  • The criterion for honorary membership of the Society is outstanding service for the public good by a Scottish solicitor.
  • Nominated solicitors must no longer be practising nor hold a practising certificate and solicitors cannot self-nominate.
  • Nominations will be considered by the Society's Council in October 2024, with the Honorary Member(s) announced in November.

Download and complete the nomination form

Completed nominations should be emailed to the Law Society’s Governance Team at GovernanceTeam@lawscot.org.uk by 5pm on Wednesday, 2 October 2024.
