In-House Lawyers Committee Convener election
Do you want the opportunity to lead and support the in-house community and contribute to the work of the Law Society of Scotland?
The Society is currently looking to elect a convener for the In-House Lawyers Committee (ILC) and nominations are open from 4 May – 24 May 2016. To be eligible, you must be a solicitor with at least one year’s service on the In-House Lawyers' Group Committee (ILG Committee).
The appointment will start on 1 July 2016 and run for three years until 30th June 2019. It will involve regularly chairing ILC meetings in Edinburgh and representing the ILC as a co-opted member of the Law Society Council. Conference call facilities are available if you are not able to travel to Edinburgh on occasion.
The ILC was set up in 2015 to represent, support and promote the interests of Law Society members working in-house in Scotland and beyond. It continues the work of the ILG Committee, which was established in 1973 as an independent committee of the Society.
The ILC’s core aims are:
- To engage with in-house solicitors, ensuring the Law Society understands and serves their professional needs.
- To promote the interests and status of in-house solicitors and trainees.
- To encourage and assist in the development of better training of solicitors and trainees working in-house.
- To promote the value of employing in-house solicitors to organisations who do not currently employ solicitors.
To nominate yourself, please download a nomination form and a candidate information form and email both completed forms to Beth Anderson, Head of Engagement for In-House Lawyers, at bethanderson@lawscot.org.uk.
The deadline for nominations is noon, Tuesday 24 May 2016.
If there is a contested election, voting will take place from 1 June to 29 June 2016. The Society will publish all results on the website.
