Law Society condemns inflammatory language by UK Government
The Law Society of Scotland has spoken out to condemn a repeat of inflammatory and derogatory language about lawyers doing their jobs by UK Government ministers.
Murray Etherington, President of the Law Society of Scotland, said:
“Once again, senior members of the UK Government have chosen to speak in highly inflammatory and derogatory terms about lawyers who are doing their jobs and acting within the law.
“The UK has long been admired for upholding the rule of law. To repeatedly refer to lawyers and the crucial work they do in such terms is increasingly damaging. Lawyers act within the laws that are passed by our parliamentarians, dedicating their skills, experience and time to protecting and upholding the legal and human rights of people in this country.
“It is entirely unjustified and does a huge disservice not just to the legal profession, but to all those they represent and is, I believe, also damaging to the reputation of the UK and its international standing.”
