Law Society of Scotland celebrates Pride Month

1st June 2022 | Equality and diversity , Law Society news

Updated: 14 June 2022

Our new President Murray Etherington said: “I’m really pleased that one of my first public statements as Law Society President is to affirm our commitment to inclusion and standing up against all forms of bullying and harassment.” #Pride2022 #equalityforallunderthelaw

Elaine MacGlone, our equality and diversity manager, and Yvonne Brady, head of Strategy, Restructuring & Insolvency at Morton Fraser, have also co-written an article in this month's issue of The Journal to reflect on the recent trends on sexuality and belonging among solicitors.

Pride Month events

Edinburgh Pride brunch

We will be co-hosting a relaxed brunch – along with Addleshaw Goddard's OpenAG committee and the Glass Network – before the Edinburgh Pride march on Saturday, 25 June.

Members and their family and friends are all welcome to attend from 10.30am at the Edinburgh offices of Addleshaw Goddard.

Attendees will then be invited to walk together in the Edinburgh Pride march scheduled to begin at 1pm.

Please advise Addleshaw Goddard if you and others will be attending by registering online.

Transgender Inclusion in the Workplace

On 8 June we were pleased to host Beth Tappenden (She/Her) – a researcher specialising in equality, diversity and inclusion – for an online event discussing how the Scottish legal profession can promote positive change on transgender issues in the workplace.

Beth leads on equity, diversity and inclusion events at professional recruitment firm Robert Walters.

Last year Beth completed a Master of Science in Human Resource Management at the University of Edinburgh with her study titled “Educating workforces on Trans identities and transitions to increase inclusion of gender diverse people”.

As part of her Masters research Beth worked closely with global law firm DWF and with Business in the Community Scotland.
