Nominations to join Law Society Council open
Nominations are now open to join the Law Society of Scotland’s decision-making body to represent solicitors across Scotland.
Joining the Law Society’s Council allows you to influence important decisions, contribute to key pieces of work and represent and support local solicitors.
President of the Law Society of Scotland, Susan Murray, said, “I’ve been a member of Council representing solicitors in Edinburgh since 2017, and have found being a Council member immensely interesting and rewarding as we engage with significant, often challenging, issues that affect our profession, at both a local and national level.
“As a Council member you have an opportunity to be an important voice for the members in your area and get to know and engage with your professional peer group. It’s such an important time for the profession as we see the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Bill continue its progress through the Scottish Parliament, a new inquiry on civil legal aid, as well as plans for significant reforms to Scotland’s criminal justice system.”
Seats are available in the following constituencies:
- Glasgow & Strathkelvin (5 seats)
- Perth (1 seat)
- Greenock, Kilmarnock & Paisley (2 seats)
- Cupar, Dunfermline & Kirkcaldy (2 seats)
Council members for the 10 available seats are eligible to be nominated by their constituency members for a three-year term, until May 2028.
Any practicing solicitor within a constituency is eligible to nominate and vote in the election. Nominations open on Thursday, 3 April and close at 12 noon on Thursday, 24 April. In the event of a contested election, voting will open on Friday, 2 May and close on Thursday, 1 May.
